Who we are
Mr Edebiri trading as The Maths Room (“we”, “us”) is the data controller for personal information collected through this website and in providing tuition. Contact: info@themathsroom.co.uk.
What information we collect
- Enquiries and bookings: parent or guardian name, student name and school year, email address, phone number and any message you send us.
- Tuition: information about what the student needs help with, lesson notes, homework, progress and assessment information.
- Payments and scheduling: handled through our booking and tutoring platform (see below). We do not store card details ourselves.
- Technical data: basic information such as your IP address when you visit the website.
We collect information about children from their parents or guardians. We do not knowingly collect information from children directly without parental involvement.
How and why we use it
- To respond to enquiries and arrange assessments and lessons (to take steps at your request, and our legitimate interests in running the business).
- To deliver tuition, track progress and give feedback (performance of our contract with you).
- To take payments and keep financial records (contract and legal obligation).
- To keep the website secure and working (legitimate interests).
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for automated decision-making.
Who we share it with
We use trusted providers to run the business, including TutorBird (scheduling, invoicing, payments, parent portal and homework), our website host, and WhatsApp and email providers for communication. The website also loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your IP address is sent to Google. These providers act on our instructions and have their own privacy policies. Some may process data outside the UK, in which case we rely on appropriate safeguards. We may also share information where the law requires.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above. This means while a student is having lessons and for a reasonable period afterwards. Financial records are kept as required by law.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to access, correct or delete your information, restrict or object to its use, and ask for a copy in a portable format. To use these rights, contact us at info@themathsroom.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Security
We take reasonable steps to keep information safe, including using reputable platforms and limiting access to what is needed.
Cookies
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. If we add analytics later, we will update this policy.
